ABOUT THE AUTHOR Saddhaloka was born in Jersey in 1948. He studied at Leeds University where he obtained a BA in History and developed a strong interest in Eastern religions, especially Buddhism. He then married and travelled overland to India, where he spent fourteen months visiting several of the holy places associated with the Buddha. After returning to Britain he spent the next five years working on farms, mostly as a herdsman, including three years in Ireland in a village community with people with learning difficulties. He maintained a strong interest in meditation and Buddhism and in 1979 moved to Norwich with his family where there were other Buddhist with young children. Two years later he was ordained into the Western Buddhist Order, and spent the next fourteen years teaching meditation and Buddhism. In 1995 he moved to Padmaloka, a retreat centre in Norfolk where he helps men prepare for ordination. He also has a special interest in developing Buddhist activities in Finland, Estonia and Russia. Saddhaloka now has three grown-up children and a grand-daughter.
